2.)  Columbus Is Fashion event to be held at BoMA January12th

Columbus fashion designers, along with owners of unique boutiques,          will be center stage when they are showcased at the first "Columbus Is          Fashion" event on January 12 at BoMA Bar of Modern Art. No event has          offered a platform for Columbus's up-and-coming designers and          successful clothing stores. By appealing to an audience of central          Ohio's young professionals, event planners want to offer a fun night          that also supports local entrepreneurs.

Five percent of the net proceeds will benefit The Richard M. Ross Heart          Hospital at The Ohio State University. The show will feature three          boutiques and five new designers revealing everything from classic          and urban couture to everyday graphic apparel worn. The clothing will          be worn by 14 professional models from Los Angeles, New York,          France, Morocco,  and, of course, Columbus.

SHOW PARTICIPANTS: Choonamils, Industry Standard, Jwork Ltd.,                Milk Bar, N’Threads, Red Planet X, Revamp by Barb Wallace, Phenology

  3.)  Columbus Alive Interview

Cris Hartman just isn't much of a jeans and T-shirt kind of person. The          spunky Red Planet X sales associate instead prefers to wear layered          dresses and lots of accessories.

She reaches for skirts and dresses during summer, when sticky          humidity leaves many fashionistas stifled in denim. Still, she's far from          a saccharine girly-girl. For one thing, Hartman sports a bevy of tattoos          to offset her feminine clothing tendencies.

Hartman laughed as she described her sense of style as "weird." She         explained, "I really like to mix things up a lot. I don't really have one         particular thing that defines my style, although I do have a lot of shoes,         dresses, skirts and handbags filling up my closet."

She admitted that it's not uncommon for most of her paycheck to go        directly back into the store's register to feed her shopping habit.

Hartman thinks that some other vintage clothing stores (which she        politely declined to name) aren't fun to visit, because of the staff's        attitude and reluctance to help customers.

"Everyone at Red Planet is nice and helpful, which is how it should be,"         she said. "And the new location [two doors from their old location on         Olentangy River Road] is much bigger and easier to shop."

Here's hoping her closet is big enough to handle the store expansion.

4.) Red Planet GETS REAL with highschool students and the CW

"The Get Real event at Fort Hayes high school was a huge success! I         think this is a great way to show students what it's like in the "real         world." All of the kids were extremely excited about this event and most         importantly, they had fun while learning. I interviewed a few sponsors of         the event and they all were very passionate about what they had to say         and how important this is for kids. Nearly 700 students showed up on a         day they didn't even have school! These bright youngsters are today's         tomorrow, they know it's up to them to make a change in the world and         they are taking action! The Get Real event is extremely important, it not         only shows kids how to manage their money, but how to live a positive,         successful life as well. I can't wait until the next one!"

5.) Delicious Tees now at Red Planet!

Delicious Tees dropped us a line just before the holiday season. They          have a really nice line of women’s tees that got me thinking. I realized a         majority of submissions I post tend to be for mens shirts. Need to work         on that. No better place to start I guess than with Delicious.

A series of 10 shirts is available, all of which ‘promote a message of         love and unity rooted from the female experience’. Our feature sample          is the Instrument design (shown right). The designs are great. A rich         mixture of type and illustration brings to life the Delicious message.         The shirts are a 50/50 blend and nicely cut. The silkscreening was         nicely executed. We also appreciated the little catalog that came along         with the shirts. I think those little extras make the presentation and had         me immediately looking at what else was available (and no net         connection needed). Nicely done.
